【右丁】
小豆洗い（アヅキアライ）　羽蟻が飛ぶことは一、二尺に過ぎない。大きさは胡椒ほどあり、紙窓にとまり声をなす。赤豆を洗う音に似ている。茶立て虫の類であろう。微細な声である。
今、虫眼鏡にて写す

△蛍騙し（ホタルダマシ）　蝿の一種なり。蛍によく似ている。
羽は黒く蝿の翼のような紋脈がある。飛ぶことは至って遅鈍なり。柔弱なものにて手に取れば早く弱るものなり。指に黒い色素が染み付く。三月の頃出る。

蛍もどき
十四年以前、文化五年辰（1808年）の六月二十七日に捕り写した虫と同じものなり。土用に入る日なり。

一体の質は堅い。六足は短い。その足を畳んで腹に隠し、髭を伸ばした時は不動。叩頭虫にも似ている。米搗き虫より扁平。腹に足を畳み込んだ時は木で彫刻したようである。光りなし。よく見れば細い条がある。髭は至って柔らかで横に断紋がある。人の手に触れれば六脚を畳み込んで死んだようになる。

○文政四年辛巳（1821年）六月十四日（土用前七日）
西丸より鑑定せよとの命があり、中山内匠頭、鵜殿藤三郎より手紙にて申し来る。

Azuki-arai (Bean Washer) - The winged ants fly only one to two shaku. They are about the size of a peppercorn, perch on paper windows and make sounds. The sound resembles that of washing red beans. It is likely a type of booklouse. The sound is very faint.

△Firefly mimic (Hotaru-damashi) - A type of fly that closely resembles a firefly.
The wings are black with vein patterns like fly wings. Flight is extremely slow and sluggish. It is delicate, and when caught by hand, quickly weakens. Black pigment stains the fingers. Appears around March.

Firefly-like insect
This is the same insect captured and drawn fourteen years ago on the 27th day of the 6th month of Bunka 5, year of the Dragon (1808). It was the day when the hottest period of summer began.

The overall body is hard. The six legs are short. When it folds its legs and hides them against its belly with antennae extended, it remains motionless, resembling a click beetle. It is flatter than a click beetle. When the legs are folded against the belly, it looks as if carved from wood. It has no luminescence. Upon close inspection, there are fine stripes. The antennae are very soft with horizontal segmented patterns. When touched by human hands, it folds its six legs and appears dead.
