現代語訳

　　　　　　　　　　　　蛾　文政十三年庚寅（1830年）四月十七日に繭より
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　出る。繭にて虫取り紗にて張る小籠に入れ
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　御次へお預けになったところ、繭を破って
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　この蝶が出る。卵を産む。白色で深緑の
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　斑文がある。

七八月の頃稀に
ある。その羽は透
明にして蝱虫
のごとし。昼は
草葉の裏
に眠り、黄
昏の時飛び回って
花露を吸う。
天蛾、俗名夕
顔別当というものと同じ。
その飛翔することは極めて
素早くて捕らえ難い
ものなり。

　　　　　　　　　　　　　である。

　　　　　　　　　　　　Moth　Bunsei 13, year of the Metal Tiger (1830), fourth month, seventeenth day, emerged from
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　cocoon. Put the cocoon in a small basket stretched with insect-catching gauze,
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　and when entrusted to the waiting room, it broke through the cocoon
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　and this butterfly emerged. It lays eggs. White in color with deep green
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　spotted patterns.

Unusual species of moth
Rarely found around
the seventh and eighth months.
Its wings are trans-
parent like those of a
gadfly. During the day it
sleeps on the back
of grass leaves, and at
twilight it flies around
sucking flower dew.
A hawk moth, commonly called
"yugao betto" (evening face butler), same as that.
Its flight is extremely
swift and difficult to catch.
