いみじけれど、切り刻むすべもなく、織り香炉敷きにさえ劣って、越えたてぬものもあるが、この虫は病むことなき幸いあるもので、宮中の雑舎にて、何くれの御局にも、御櫛笥の中、白粉の中に転がって、このように人をさえ野に捨てためる習いであるのに、十年、二十年の後までも、御物の中に包ませ置かせ給うことよ。このよう

Though it may be precious, there is no way to cut it into pieces, and it is inferior even to woven incense burner mats, though some things cannot be surpassed. But this insect, being one with good fortune that never falls ill, in the various quarters of the imperial palace, in all the ladies' chambers, rolls about in the cosmetic boxes and white powder containers. Following this custom of abandoning even people to the wilderness, they are wrapped and kept in precious containers for ten or twenty years thereafter.

Such things ascending to the clouds above—the wisdom of ancient times. When people cultivated grass and rose to high positions, this was considered rare and precious, but now things have changed completely.
