豆州八代郡。右左口山渓有鶴瀬橋。々右有榜記巨勢金
岡墨画地藏尊字。沿流而泝数十歩。只見赤壁而不見尊
像。尊者杓水濯石面。須臾慈像宛然而現。如隔重霧。同行
皆嘆。幻化之奇。其水中有物黑而蠕々者。或意螺螄小者。
戲取現之則石也。其形方不満分許。長過半寸。上豊而下
殺。然未知所以蠕動。取二三十箇。袖至旅亭偶出見之。《見せ消ち：所｜【注】》
以為石者。又䠖跙而行。衆再駭其奇。細見之則有頭有足。
其頭足黑光而體白。状佀麦虫未化小蛾者。再審之其方而
如石者。綴石屑以爲殻也。是石蠹一種而尤奇者也。

現代語訳

【右丁】
伊豆国八代郡。右左口山の渓谷に鶴瀬橋がある。橋の右に榜示があり、巨勢金岡の墨絵による地蔵尊の文字が記されている。流れに沿って遡ること数十歩。ただ赤い崖壁が見えるだけで尊像は見えない。柄杓で水を汲んで石の表面を洗うと、しばらくして慈悲深い像がはっきりと現れる。まるで重い霧を隔てて見るようである。同行者は皆、この幻想的な変化の奇跡に感嘆した。その水中に黒くて蠢くものがある。あるいは小さな螺のようなものかと思われた。戯れに取ってみるとそれは石であった。その形は四角く一分にも満たない大きさで、長さは半寸を超える。上部が豊かで下部が細くなっている。しかしなぜ蠢動するのかは分からなかった。二三十個を取って、袖に入れて旅館まで持ち帰り、偶然取り出して見ると、石だと思っていたものが、また這って歩いている。一同は再びその奇異さに驚いた。詳しく見ると頭と足がある。その頭と足は黒く光っており、体は白い。形状は麦虫がまだ小蛾に変化していないものに似ている。さらに詳しく調べると、その四角く石のようなものは、石の屑を綴り合わせて殻としているのである。これは石蠹の一種で特に珍しいものである。

【左丁】
水クラゲ　このものは品川の海にも時折漂着する。裏側に四本の脚があって、その正中央に生じている。五六分ほどで食料にはならない。手で触れる時は刺があってまるで刺すようである。しばらくすると腫れて痛みが出るものである。毒があるものなので捨てて触らない。厚さは一寸ほどあり、葛練りのように透き通っているものである。

Izu Province, Yatsushiro District. In the valley of Usaguchi Mountain, there is Tsuruse Bridge. To the right of the bridge is a notice board with characters of Jizo Bodhisattva painted in ink by Kose Kanaoka. Following the stream upstream for several dozen steps, only red cliffs are visible and no sacred statue can be seen. When one draws water with a ladle and washes the stone surface, after a while a benevolent image clearly appears, as if seen through heavy fog. All companions marveled at this miraculous transformation. In that water there are black, wriggling things. One might think they are perhaps small snails. When playfully picked up, they turn out to be stones. Their shape is square, less than one bu in size, and longer than half a sun. The upper part is full and the lower part tapers. However, it was unclear why they moved and wriggled. Taking twenty or thirty pieces and carrying them in sleeves to the inn, when accidentally taken out and examined, what was thought to be stones were crawling and walking again. Everyone was again amazed by this strangeness. Upon close examination, they have heads and feet. The heads and feet are black and shiny, while the body is white. Their form resembles wheat insects that have not yet transformed into small moths. Upon further investigation, those square, stone-like things are shells made by binding together stone fragments. This is a type of sekito (stone borer) that is particularly rare.

Water jellyfish - This creature occasionally drifts to Shinagawa's sea as well. On its underside are four legs that grow from the very center. About five to six bu in size, it is not suitable as food. When touched by hand, it has stings that pierce like needles. After a while, swelling and pain appear. Since it is poisonous, it should be discarded and not touched. It is about one sun thick and transparent like kuzu starch jelly.
