むかひいへるは千万いふてもかへらぬくり言忰がふとゞき
申 訳（わけ）なき次第両親の心底（しんてい）さつし入てこそ侍へ
さりながら叶はぬ迄も療治（りやうじ）こそ肝要（かんよう）なれ手負
をつれかへり医師（いし）にもみせ給へなんやといへば鷲蔵も
げにとてしとみを取よせさくをかきのせてかへり
医薬手をつくせどかひなく翌（よく）の日おしや【惜しや】十六の
花をちらしぬ惣太夫を始惣右衛門一家残りなく打寄
いかゝはせんとあんじ煩ひ安き心もなく皆々ひそみ
居たり日頃さもなきことをさへねぢけたるおとこ
なれは解死（けし）人のうへにいかなる事をやいふらんと思ひ

やられぬ元来（もとより）鷲蔵夫婦が歎（なげ）きはいはんも更（さら）也一七日の
いとなみも果（はて）て十日余りになれど鷲蔵方より何の
事もいひこずけふかあすかとたれ〳〵も思ひゐるに七々
日も過行どさしてとがめにも来らねば惣太夫あや
しみ何様にも心得がたしと是も子を思ふ心から
打置がたく鷲蔵（わしさう）が許（もと）へいたりければ夫婦向ひゐて
物かたりするさま也惣太夫は案内し内へ入り悔（くや）みなど
いひ終りてはやお作【おさく、娘の名】の忌（いみ）も果たり此上は忰（せかれ）惣右衛門
解死人（けしにん）に取給へ是は少ながらおさくの弔（とむ）らひ料に
参らするとて金五十両出しければ鷲蔵しばし

鷲蔵に向かって言うには、「いくら言っても戻らない繰り言で、息子の不注意、申し訳のない次第です。ご両親のお心をお察し申し上げます。しかしながら、叶わぬまでも治療こそが肝要でしょう。負傷者を連れて帰り、医師にも見せてください」と言うと、鷲蔵ももっともだとして、戸板を取り寄せ、さくを担いで帰った。

医師が薬を尽くして手を尽くしたが甲斐なく、翌日、惜しくも十六歳の花を散らしてしまった。惣太夫をはじめ惣右衛門一家残らず集まって、どうしたものかと案じ煩い、安らかな心もなく、皆がひそんでいた。日頃から些細なことでもねじ曲げて考える男（鷲蔵）なので、娘の死について、どのような事を言うだろうかと思うと

気が気でなかった。もとより鷲蔵夫婦の嘆きは言うまでもない。初七日の営みも終えて十日余りになったが、鷲蔵の方から何の話も持ちかけてこない。今日か明日かと誰もが思っているうちに四十九日も過ぎていくが、特に咎めにも来ないので、惣太夫は不審に思い、「どのように理解してよいか分からない」と、これも子を思う心から放っておけず、鷲蔵のもとへ行ったところ、夫婦が向かい合って話をしているようだった。惣太夫は挨拶をして家に入り、弔いの言葉などを述べ終えて、「もうおさくの忌明けも済みました。この上は息子惣右衛門を人殺しとして処罰してください。これはわずかながら、おさくの弔い料として差し上げます」と言って金五十両を出したところ、鷲蔵はしばらく

Since Washizo was a man who twisted even trivial daily matters, they wondered anxiously what he might say about his daughter's death.

They could not rest easy. Naturally, the grief of the Washizo couple was beyond words. The first seven-day memorial service had ended and more than ten days had passed, but nothing had been heard from Washizo's side. Everyone was thinking it would come today or tomorrow, and even the forty-nine-day period was passing, but he had not come to make any accusations. Sotadayu found this strange and thought, "This is incomprehensible." Being unable to leave matters as they were due to his paternal concern, he went to Washizo's house, where he found the couple sitting facing each other in conversation. Sotadayu announced himself and entered the house. After offering condolences and such, he said, "Now that Osaku's mourning period has ended, please treat my son Sozaemon as a murderer and punish him. This is a small amount, but please accept it as money for Osaku's memorial service," and he presented fifty gold coins. Washizo remained silent for a while.
