【十四丁裏】
世之助は絹川の夢を見て
思案に苦しみながらうとうとと眠り込んだ。
この夢で相当汗を
流し、茶屋の男に起こ
されて目を覚まして様子を
聞けば、絹川もいよいよ
杉大神に受け入れられ、
もはや昨日遊郭を出て
亡くなったとのこと。
所詮悔やんでも仕方のない
こと、さっ
ぱりと
諦めなさいませ。
これはこちらで買って
参りました毬栗餅で
ございます。これで
お茶でも召し上がって
冗談にして
お終い
なさいませ。

世之助は夢で悟りを開き、これからは
身の振り方でも決める心になったところ、
どじょう屋の次兵衛が床にて婚礼を整え
た。江戸近在の大きなおたふく娘が
よい男に添い遂げたい願いで
大金二十両の持参金にて世之助の
所へ来る。

Yonosuke dreamed of Kinugawa
and dozed off while agonizing over his thoughts.
From this dream he broke into quite a sweat,
and when awakened by a teahouse man
and asked about the situation,
he learned that Kinugawa had finally
been received by Sugi Daijin (the great deity),
and had already left the pleasure quarters yesterday
and passed away.
Since lamenting serves no purpose anyway,
you should cleanly
give up.
Here are some chestnut-burr rice cakes
I bought
for you. Please have some
tea with these
and treat it as a joke
to put an end
to this matter.

Yonosuke achieved enlightenment through his dream, and resolved
to decide on his future path in life.
At that point, Jihei the loach seller arranged a wedding ceremony at his establishment.
A large Otafuku-faced daughter from the Edo vicinity,
wishing to be wed to a good man,
comes to Yonosuke's place with
a substantial dowry of twenty ryō.
When he removes
the round cotton padding
and looks at
her face,
it is exactly like
the Otafuku
he saw in his dream,
which terrifies him
greatly,
but they
harmoniously
complete their
marriage.
