坂上（さかのへ）近髙（ちかたか）藤原（ふちわら）玄明（はるあき）兩人（りやうにん）は
将門（まさかと）の腹心（ふくしん）にて将頼（まさより）か後詰（こつめ）の
ため常陸國城（ひたちくにしろ）をかま
えてゐたりしが味方（みかた）

【取り押さえられた坂上近高と藤原玄明】
坂上近高と藤原玄明の両人は、将門の腹心であり、将頼の後詰（援軍）のために常陸国に城を構えていた。しかし、味方が負けて将頼が討死したという知らせを聞いたので、本国へ帰ろうと計画した。身分の低い百姓の女房一人を誘い出し、上等な絹を着せて張輿に乗せ、二人とも奴僕に身をやつして、繁盛の役所の前を通りかかった。番人が見とがめて、怪しいと呼び止めた。

【The Capture of Sakanoue no Chikataka and Fujiwara no Haruaki】
Sakanoue no Chikataka and Fujiwara no Haruaki were both trusted retainers of Masakado, and had built a fortress in Hitachi Province to serve as reinforcements for Masayori. However, when they heard that their allies had been defeated and Masayori had been killed in battle, they planned to return to their home province. They enticed a lowly peasant woman to come with them, dressed her in fine silk, placed her in a palanquin, and disguised themselves as servants. As they passed in front of the prosperous government office, the guards became suspicious and stopped them as suspicious persons.
