のんでさらに用意（ようい）もせず兼任（かねとう）が
組下（くみした）の兵（つはもの）に岩付（いわつき）吉次（きちぢ）といふもの

嶋廣山の城の搦手（裏側）は険阻な地形を頼みにして、特に防備を固めていなかった。兼任の配下の兵で岩付吉次という者が三百五十騎を率いて、木の根に取り付き岩角を踏んで、苦労しながら高櫓のもとまで進み寄った。吉次は櫓に向かって熊手を打ちかけ、さらさらと伝って登り、塀を飛び越して城門を押し開き、味方を引き入れて各施設に火を放った。折しも朝嵐が激しく吹いて炎が天を焦がしたので、三百五十人の兵たちがあちこちに散らばって切り回ると、寝込みを襲われた城兵は甲冑も捨てて

【Kanetō's Troops Advancing on Shimahiroyama Castle】
The rear approach (karamete) of Shimahiroyama Castle relied on the steep terrain and had no special fortifications prepared. Among Kanetō's subordinate warriors, a man named Iwatsuki Kichiji led three hundred and fifty mounted warriors. They grasped tree roots and stepped on rocky ledges, struggling with great difficulty until they advanced to the base of the high watchtower. Kichiji threw grappling hooks at the tower, climbed up along them with a rustling sound, leaped over the fence, pushed open the castle gates, let his allies in, and set fire to various buildings. At that moment, a fierce morning storm was blowing and the flames scorched the sky.
