将門は合戦のたびに、自分と同じような武者六人に、同様の武具を着せ、同じ毛色の馬に乗せて、進むも退くも一体となったようにして、どれが将門で、どれが家来かまったく見分けがつかなかった。今もなおその通りで、七騎の将門が轡を並べて駆け進んだが、手痛い[攻撃を受けた]

【Masakado and His Six Body Doubles】
In every battle, Masakado would dress six warriors identical to himself in the same armor and equipment, mount them on horses of the same color, and have them advance and retreat as one body, making it completely impossible to distinguish which was Masakado and which were his retainers.
