現代語訳
【剣を授ける貞純親王】
経基王は謹んで頂戴したが、「大将軍の職は私の才能に相応しくありません」と再三謙遜して辞退されたものの、勅命はやむことなく、ついに職を領受された。まことに立派なことに見えた。これこそまさに源氏の大祖として、一流の正統なあり方であり、最もこうあるべきであると称賛しない者はいなかった。

[Prince Sadazumi bestowing the sword]
Prince Tsunemoto respectfully received the honor, but humbly declined several times, saying "The position of great general does not befit my abilities." However, as the imperial command could not be refused, he finally accepted the appointment. This truly appeared most admirable. This was indeed the proper way for the great ancestor of the Minamoto clan, the authentic manner befitting the founder of this distinguished lineage, and there was no one who did not praise this as exactly how it should be.
