七日 洛中（らくちう）旋風（つぢがぜ）おびた
たしく吹（ふき）て沙（いさこ）を巻（まき）
石（いし）を走（はし）らせ咫尺（しせき）の
中をも見えわかず
いか成（なる）變異（へんい）申らんと
怪（あやし）みおもふ処（ところ）に坤（ひつじさる）の方（かた）
より艮（うしとら）へさして大地（だいち）も
崩（くづるゝ）はかり震動（ふるひうこき）民屋（みんおく）
はさらなり厳（おごそか）に建（たて）な
らべたる神社（しんしや）佛閣（ぶつかく）
のこりなくぐづれて
また俄（にはか）に水（みづ）涌（わき）い
でゝ天（てん）にみなぎり
山（やま）さけて谷（たに）を埋（うづ）む
する墨（すみ）を流（なが）せし

【天変地異、異形の物を見て怪しむ人々】
承平四年五月二十七日、都の中で旋風が激しく吹いて砂を巻き上げ、石を飛ばし、手を伸ばせば届くほどの近くも見分けがつかなくなった。
いったいどのような異変が起こるのだろうかと怪しみ思っていると、南西の方角から北東に向かって大地も崩れるほどに震動し、民家はもちろんのこと、厳かに建て並べられた神社仏閣も残らず崩れてしまった。
また突然に水が湧き出て天に満ち溢れ、山が裂けて谷を埋めるような墨を流したような様子であった。

[Portents and Natural Disasters: People Wonder at Strange Phenomena]
On the twenty-seventh day of the fifth month of Shōhei 4, fierce whirlwinds blew through the capital, whipping up sand and hurling stones, making it impossible to distinguish even what was within arm's reach.
As people wondered anxiously what manner of supernatural change this might portend, the earth shook so violently from southwest to northeast that it seemed the very ground would collapse. Not only common dwellings but also the solemnly erected shrines and Buddhist temples all crumbled without exception.
Then suddenly water gushed forth and filled the heavens, mountains split and filled the valleys, flowing like spilled ink.
