ける純友 是（これ）にめ覚（さめ）
たれと燈（ともしび）きえて
真暗（まつくらかり）足音（あしおと）をしる
べに無一（むず）と組（くん）て揉（もみ）
合（あい）しか賊（ぞく）は二人 純（すみ）
友（とも）はたゝ壱人にてあ
しらいかねて強盗（ごうとう）を
くみとめたり起（おき）よ者（もの）
どもと呼（よば）るに良等（ろうどう）若（わか）
黨（とう）をき合（あわせ）て折重（おりかさなり）て高（たか）
手 小（こ）手にからめける扨（さて）燈（ともしひ）を
点（てん）じて屋方（やかた）の内（うち）をみれば
調度（てうど）金銀（きんぎん）のこりなく盗（ぬすみ）とら
れたれば純友大きに怒（いか）り強（つよく）

現代語訳
【強盗を組み伏せる純友】
純友はこれに目を覚ましたが、灯火が消えて真っ暗闇であった。足音を頼りに無我夢中で組みついて揉み合った。賊は二人、純友はただ一人であったので手に負えずにいたが、強盗を組み止めた。「起きよ、者ども」と呼ぶと、家来や若党が駆け集まって、折り重なるようにして（賊を）高手小手に縛り上げた。さて灯火を点けて屋形の中を見ると、調度品や金銀が残らず盗み取られていたので、純友は大いに怒り、（賊を）厳しく縛り上げて本国へと帰って行った。
英語訳
[Sumitomo Subduing the Bandits]
Sumitomo awoke at this, but the lamp had gone out and it was pitch black. Using the sound of footsteps as his guide, he desperately grappled and wrestled with them. There were two bandits while Sumitomo was only one person, so he could barely handle them, but he managed to pin down the robbers. When he called out "Wake up, men!" his retainers and young attendants came rushing together and, piling on top of each other, bound the bandits hand and foot. When they lit a lamp and looked inside the cabin, all the furnishings and gold and silver had been stolen without exception, so Sumitomo became greatly enraged, bound the bandits tightly, and returned to his home province.
