聴（ちやう）せよとかねて
拵置（こしらへおき）し令旨（りやうし）
とり出しよみ
聞（きか）せければ
貪欲（とんよく）ふてき
の海賊（かいぞく）ども
小おどりして
よろこひ我々（われ〳〵）
は国（くに）〳〵に相觸（あいふれ）れ【ママ】
与力（よりき）の軍勢（くんぜい）驅（かり）
催（もよふ）し不日（ふにち）に馳参（はせさんす）
べしと子細（しさい）なく
領掌（りやうしやう）しければ純（すみ）
友（とも）大きに悦（よろこ）ひ黄（わう）

現代語訳
【令旨を捧げる純友】
「聞け」と言って、あらかじめ用意しておいた令旨を取り出して読み聞かせたところ、欲深く不敵な海賊どもは小躍りして喜び、「我々は各国に触れ回り、味方の軍勢を駆り集めて、すぐにでも馳せ参じましょう」と詳しい説明もなく承諾したので、純友は大いに喜んで、黄金十両と太刀を与えて労をねぎらった。
英語訳
[Sumitomo presenting the imperial edict]
Saying "Listen!", he took out the imperial edict he had prepared beforehand and read it aloud. The greedy and audacious pirates jumped for joy and readily accepted, saying "We will spread word throughout the provinces, gather allied forces, and rush to join you without delay." Sumitomo was greatly pleased and rewarded them with ten ryō of gold and swords to honor their service.
