平三位兼任は父の居城土浦にやって来て、将門の謀反の企てについて語ったところ、父の国香は大いに驚き、「事がまだ小さいうちに退治すべきだ」として、国中の軍勢千三百余騎を集めた。長男の貞盛は在京中で居合わせず、二男の繁盛と三男の兼任を両大将として、城より三里出て陣を敷いた。繁盛はわざと五十余丁後退して兵を伏せて待ち構えていた。御厨三郎将[頼]

[Taira no Shigemori and Kanetō Fighting Valiantly]
Taira no Sanmi Kanetō came to his father's castle at Tsuchiura and told him of Masakado's rebellious plot. His father Kunika was greatly alarmed and said, "We must subdue him while the matter is still small." He gathered over 1,300 mounted warriors from throughout the province. The eldest son Sadamori was in Kyoto and not present, so he made the second son Shigemori and third son Kanetō joint commanders. They advanced three ri from the castle and set up their battle formation. Shigemori deliberately retreated over fifty chō and concealed his troops, lying in wait. Mikuriya Saburō Masa[yori]
