て戦（たゝか）わんや只（たゝ）城（しろ）を
守（まもり）てかたく防（ふぜ）ぎ
早馬（はやむま）を以て
都（みやこ）にすくひ
を乞（こひ）敵（てき）の機（き）を
見て拉（とりひしか）は必（かなら）ず
勝利（しやうり）あるべし
と申されけれど
いや〳〵此（この）小城（こしろ）に
て大敵（たいてき）にかこま
れ兵粮（へうろう）【食＋良・𩛡】の用意（ようい）も
なく十日ともこらへ候
まじ兎角（とかく）難所（なんじよ）に討（うつ）
て出（いで）勝負（しやうぶ）を一 時（じ）に決（けつ）す
へしと衆儀（しゆぎ）定（さだま）りて藤代（ふじしろ）
川（かは）を前（まへ）にあて陣（しん）を取（とり）て扣（ひかへ）たり

【進言を聞く国香】
出て戦うことができるでしょうか。ただ城を守って堅く防ぎ、早馬を使って都に救援を求め、敵の隙を見て攻撃すれば必ず勝利があるでしょう」と申し上げたけれども、「いやいや、この小さな城で大敵に包囲され、兵糧の用意もなく、十日も持ちこたえることはできまい。とにかく険しい場所に討って出て、勝負を一時に決するべきだ」と衆議が決まって、藤代川を前面にして陣を張って控えていた。

How can we go out and fight? We should simply defend the castle firmly, send swift messengers to the capital to request aid, and when we see an opportunity in the enemy's formation, we can surely achieve victory by attacking." However, the group decided: "No, no—if we are besieged by this great enemy in this small castle without adequate provisions, we could not hold out even ten days. In any case, we should sally forth to a difficult terrain and decide the outcome of battle at once." With this consensus reached, they took up position with the Fujishiro River to their front and waited.
