りんの鞍（くら）おいて打
のり弓杖（ゆんづへ）ついて申
けるは夫（それ）に扣（ひかへ）たる武（む）
者（しや）は大将（たいしやう）国香（くにか）と見たり

あれと弦音（つるおと）高（たか）く切（きつ）て
放（はな）つ矢面（やおもて）に立（たち）たる笠（かさ）

現代語訳
【矢を放った将門】
覆輪の鞍を置いて馬にまたがり、弓杖をついて申すことには「あそこに控えている武者は大将国香と見受けられる。矢一つ受けてみよ」と言って、弦音高く弓を引き絞って放った。矢面に立っていた笠間行国の胸板を射貫いて、大将国香の右手の乳の下へ食い込むように深く刺さって立っていたのは痛手であったので、馬からどうと落ちてしまった。そこで将門の軍勢が一斉にどっと鬨の声を上げて駆け立てたので、討たれる者の数は知れないほどであった。

【Masakado Releases His Arrow】
Mounting his horse with its white-trimmed saddle and leaning on his bow staff, he declared: "That warrior positioned over there appears to be General Kunika. Take this arrow!" With that, he drew his bowstring with a high twang and released it. The arrow pierced through the breastplate of Kasama Yukikuni who stood in the line of fire, and drove deep into General Kunika's right breast below the nipple, standing there embedded. It was such a grievous wound that he tumbled heavily from his horse. Thereupon Masakado's forces all at once raised a great war cry and charged forward, so that the number of those struck down was beyond counting.
