【畏まる国司】
武者（むしや）二百騎はかり
庭上（ていしやう）に列坐（れつざ）すときに
上卿（じようけい）申けるは平親王（へいしんわう）き
のふ當国（とうごく）に御着（おんちやく）有（ある）ところ
今に國司（こくし）ふ参（さん）の条（ちやう）誅伐（ちうばつ）
を加（くは）へらるべきか否（いな）の勅答（ちよくとう）
申されよと宣（のへ）たりける国司（こくし）
おもひ煩（わつら）へる氣色（けしき）に見へけるを
執事（しつし）入道（にうとう）某（それかし）きと目くわせ
したりけれは国司（こくし）其（その）意（い）を
さとり謹（つゝしん）て領掌（りやうしやう）し一 族（そく）
等（とも）に相觸（あいふれ）れ【ママ】時日を移（うつ）さず
参上（さんじよう）いたすべきよしいらへければ
穴賢（あなかしこ）疎略（そりやく）のふるまひ有へから
すとていかめしくひぢをはり
供（とも）人ひきつれかへりけり
現代語訳
【畏まる国司】
武者二百騎ほどが庭上に列座していたときに、上卿が申すには「平親王が昨日当国に御到着されたところ、今に至っても国司が参上しない件について、誅伐を加えられるべきか否かの勅答を申し上げよ」と宣言した。国司は思い悩んでいる様子に見えたが、執事の入道某がきっと目配せをしたので、国司はその意図を理解し、謹んで承知し、一族等に相談して時日を移さず参上いたします、と答えた。すると「あな畏し、疎略な振る舞いがあってはならぬ」と言って威厳をもって肘を張り、供人を引き連れて帰っていった。

【The Provincial Governor Shows Deference】
When about two hundred mounted warriors were seated in rows in the courtyard, the high court noble declared: "Prince Taira arrived in this province yesterday, yet the provincial governor has still not come to pay his respects. Give your imperial response as to whether punitive action should be taken or not." The provincial governor appeared troubled and anxious, but when a certain lay priest who served as his administrator gave him a meaningful look, the governor understood his intention and respectfully acknowledged, answering that he would consult with his clan members and come to pay his respects without delay. Thereupon, the envoy said "How fearsome! There must be no negligent behavior," and departed with dignity, elbows held high, leading his retinue away.
