六孫王（ろくそんわう）源（みなもと）経（つね）基王（もとわう）は去年（きよねん）

六孫王である源経基王は去年より武蔵守を兼任して、武蔵国箕田の城にいらっしゃった。将門の弟である大葦原四郎将平が二万余騎を率いて、小さな城を十重二十重に取り囲み、息つく暇もなく攻撃した。しかし城中は少しも慌てることなく、雨のように矢を射かけたので、攻撃側は毎日三百人から五百人ずつ討たれて、攻めあぐねているように見えた。城中では、この様子を見て戦に慣れた足軽五十人が敵の陣中に

Prince Minamoto no Tsunemoto, known as Rokuson-ō, had been serving concurrently as Governor of Musashi since the previous year and was stationed at Mita Castle in Musashi Province. Masakado's younger brother, Ōashiwara Shirō Masahira, led over twenty thousand mounted warriors and surrounded the small castle in ten or twenty layers, attacking relentlessly without pause. However, the castle defenders remained completely unperturbed and shot arrows like rain, so the attacking forces lost three to five hundred men daily and appeared to be struggling in their assault.
