やがて忍（しの）びの奴原を搦（からめ）とり首を
刎（はね）んとひしめきけるを經基（つねもと）君（きみ）とゝ
め玉ひ彼等（かれら）がいましめをときて
引出物（ひきでもの）など給り汝等（なんじら）か勇壮（ゆうそう）を
かんじ味方（みかた）に扶助（ふじよ）したく思（おも）へ
ども敵（てき）は日々に勢（せい）加（くわゝ）る味方（みかた）は
既（すで）に兵粮（ひやうろう）つき今は此（この）城（しろ）こらへ
がたし今宵（こよい）何方（いつかた）へも落（おち）ゆ

やがて忍びの者たちを捕らえて首を跳ねようと騒ぎ立てていたのを、經基君が制止され、彼らの縄を解いて引き出物などを与えられた。「お前たちの勇壮さに感じ入り、味方に加えて助力してもらいたいと思うが、敵は日々に勢力を増し、味方はすでに兵糧が尽きて、今はこの城を守り抜くことが困難である。今夜どこかへ落ち延びて、再び軍勢を集めて朝敵を討伐しようと思う。そのときに味方として駆けつけて軍功を立てよ」と言って、そのまま城中に置かれた。その中に小山忠太という者が城中から逃れ出て、大将将平にこのことを告げ知らせた。

When they were about to capture the spies and behead them amid great commotion, Lord Tsunemoto stopped them, untied their bonds, and gave them parting gifts. He said, "I am impressed by your bravery and would like to have you join our side to assist us, but the enemy grows stronger daily while our side has already run out of provisions, and now it is difficult to hold this castle. Tonight we shall retreat somewhere, gather forces again, and pursue the imperial enemies. When that time comes, you should rush to our side and render military service." With these words, he kept them in the castle. Among them, a man named Oyama Chuta escaped from the castle and reported this to the enemy general Masahira.
