すは城兵（しやうへい）は落行

「さあ城兵は落ち延びていくぞ、用意せよ」として、軍勢を各所に分けて落ち延びる敵を討とうとした。城兵は思惑通りに敵を十方に分散させ、本陣を目指して切りかかった。将平は思いもよらないことであったので、散々に打ち破られて逃げ失せた。将門がまた大軍を率いて攻めてくるという知らせを聞いたので、箕田城では堀を深く掘らせ、櫓や高い塀などを頑丈に構え、城の四方の民家などを二里の間焼き払い、厳重に柵を結わせて、今や来るかと待ち構えていた。
