年久（としひさ）しく住（すみ）
侍（はへ）るもの也 年（とし）
頃（ころ）我（われ）に仇（あた）をな
す敵（かたき）あり我（わか）為（ため）

玉ひなんやと
ねんごろに頼（たの）む
にぞ秀郷（ひでさと）子細（しさい）
なく領掌（りやうじやう）し此（この）女を
先（さき）に立（たて）また勢田（せた）の橋に
立戻（たちもど）り湖水（こすい）の浪（なみ）を分（わけ）て
水中（すいちう）に入（いる）こと五十 余丁（よてう）忽（たちまち）
金殿（きんでん）玉楼（きよくろう）其（その）奇麗（きれい）いまだ
目（め）にもみざる一 世界（せかい）へ出（いで）たり
しばらくありて衣冠（いくわん）正（たゞ）しき
大王（たいわう）秀郷（ひでさと）をむかへ客居（きやくい）に請（せう）し

【大蛇の化身の女の話を聞く秀郷】
「長年ここに住んでおります者です。近頃、私に仇をなす敵がおり、私のために討って下さいませんでしょうか」と懇ろに頼んだところ、秀郷は詳しく事情を聞くこともなく快く承諾した。この女を先導として、また勢田の橋に立ち戻り、湖水の波を分けて水中に入ること五十余町、たちまち金殿玉楼のその美しさは今まで目にしたこともない一世界へと出た。しばらくして、衣冠を正しく身に着けた大王が秀郷を迎え、客間に招いた。

【Hidesato Listens to the Story of the Woman Who Was the Incarnation of a Great Serpent】
"I am one who has dwelt here for many years. Recently, there is an enemy who bears hatred toward me. Would you not slay this foe for my sake?" she earnestly beseeched him. Hidesato readily agreed without inquiring into the details. With this woman as his guide, he returned again to the Seta Bridge, parted the waves of the lake water, and entered into the depths for more than fifty chō. Suddenly he emerged into a world of golden halls and jeweled towers of such splendor as he had never before beheld. After a while, a great king properly attired in court dress welcomed Hidesato and invited him into the guest quarters.
