かくて都には東国 騒動（さうとう）も
のよし風聞（ふうふん）ありといへども
実況（しつきう）はいまだ聞（きか）ずいかゞ
あらんとおもひ玉ひける
処（ところ）に源 経基（つねもと）王（おゝきみ）都（みやこ）に上（ぢやう）
着（ちやく）し玉ひ東国（とうごく）軍（いくさ）の
しだひいさひに奏聞（そうもん）
し玉ふにまた西国（さいこく）の
早馬（はやむま）當着（とうちやく）して
伊豫掾（いよのせう）純友（すみとも）また
残黨（さんとう）をあつめ備（び）
前（ぜん）釜嶌（かましま）といふ
ところに城を

【注進を聞く源経基】
こうして都では東国で騒動があったという風聞はあったものの、実際の状況はまだ聞いておらず、どのような事態なのだろうかと思われていた。
そこへ源経基王が都に上着され、東国の戦の次第を詳しく奏聞された。またその時、西国からの早馬が到着して、「伊予掾純友がまた残党を集めて備前国釜島というところに城を構え、その勢いは近国に振るっております」と急いで報告した。

Thus in the capital, while there had been rumors of disturbances in the eastern provinces, the actual situation had not yet been heard, and people wondered what might be happening.
At that point, Prince Minamoto no Tsunemoto arrived in the capital and gave a detailed report to the throne about the course of the war in the eastern provinces. At the same time, a swift messenger arrived from the western provinces, reporting urgently: "Fujiwara no Sumitomo, Governor of Iyo, has again gathered his remaining followers and built a fortress at a place called Kamashima in Bizen Province, and his influence extends throughout the neighboring provinces."
