さく致候所右之者手引致候由申候ニ付右之者
妻大キニ驚キ出刃炮丁を切かゝり候所目あか

とすることを致した所、右の者が手引きを致した由を申した為、右の者の
妻が大いに驚き、出刃包丁を切りかかったが、目明かしが
押さえ、召し捕る者へ手傷を負わせてはならない
趣を申し聞かせ、早速牢屋敷へ参った由
十二日 朝より霧雨降る、五時半より止み

Early this month, thirteen or fourteen night thieves broke into a kimono shop in Toride-juku,
taking over eighty ryō in saved money that was in the shop, and furthermore
entered the kitchen, took the master hostage and led him away. As they departed, they told
the shop workers that if they brought one hundred fifty ryō in gold, they would
return the master, and took him away, it is said.
