一間ほどで上は扇のように広がり、丈は六、七間も
あるように見え、南方はすっきりと切ったように、上
はお囲いの松より少々高い位で、しばらくは消え
ず、それより上は雲のようになったとのこと。

Yesterday around the 7th hour, from above the roof of a mansion in the Tennō-chō area,
there appeared what might have been black vapor, like smoke, about
one ken wide at the base and spreading like a fan at the top, appearing to be six or seven ken
in height. The southern side appeared cleanly cut, and the top
was slightly higher than the pine trees of the enclosure. It did not disappear for a while,
and above that it became cloud-like.
17th day: Cloudy from morning, sunny from after the 5th hour, around the 7th
