【七不思議・八難八景】
泥川の人魚、七夕の昼の闇、夕立の砂、
屋根の砂掃き、水中の火石、龍の毛（糸状の火山噴出物）の降下、
利根川の干潟
八難八景はともに記し置きがたし、よって「難」として記す。
【俳句】
浅間の暮れの火 初秋や 花火置くしく（轟くように）と 浅間山
寺々の流れた鐘 山寺の 鐘の音もなく 流れけり
七夕の夜の砂 はらはらと 光うつろふ 夜の砂
一時に押し出す 泥に家かたぶ（傾）ね
軽井沢の落岩 焼け岩や したふて（したがって）落る 軽井沢
泥入り混乱 泥入りや 逃げる隙なし 嵐かな
吾妻の運尽き よろず世と 契りし妻の 縁尽きて

【役人の巡視・救済活動】
原田様が立科へお出かけになった際に御覧になった上で、何か（被災者への心遣いとして）、一人につき米六升ずつ、並びに銭四十貫を総人数に対して小遣いとして、お見分のご了簡にて下されました。また八月二十日に深谷宿でお泊まりになり、江戸へお上りになりました。
九月朔日（一日）、御勘定吟味役・根岸九郎左衛門、並びに勘定方・田口五郎右衛門、篠山重兵衛、橋爪領介、萩野伴右衛門、御勘定組頭・豊田金右衛門、御普請役・飯泉秀蔵、中田藤蔵、長岡又平、村井喜蔵、鶴田宇之介、大西栄八、申川冨三郎、吉濱佐七郎、小嶋伊右衛門が江戸へお上りになりました。
深谷宿御懸かりは御勘定・栗原礼助様並びに御普請役二頭。
九月朔日、御見分（現地検分）。

**Seven Wonders / Eight Hardships and Eight Scenes**
A mermaid in the muddy river; darkness at noon on Tanabata; sand in a sudden summer shower;
sweeping sand from rooftops; fire-stones in the water; the falling of "dragon's hair" (volcanic threads);
tidal flats appearing in the Tone River.
The "Eight Hardships and Eight Scenes" are both difficult to record here; therefore they are listed under "hardships."

"Early autumn — like fireworks thundering: Mount Asama"
*The washed-away temple bells:*
"The mountain temple's bell, soundless now, has washed away"
*Sand on the night of Tanabata:*
"Fluttering down — light shifting through the sand of the night"
"All at once pushed forth — a house tilts in the mud"
*Falling rocks at Karuizawa:*
"Burning rocks — cascading down as if in pursuit: Karuizawa"
*Chaos of the mud flow:*
"The mud rushes in — no time to flee — a terrible storm"
*The fate of Agatsuma exhausted:*
"Vowed to be together ten thousand years — yet our bond (our 'tsuma'/wife) is severed"
*Only rooftops remain in the evening glow:*
"The evening sun shines upon the rooftop shores of homes"
**Official Inspection and Relief Activities**
When Lord Harada visited Tateshina and surveyed the situation, out of compassion for the victims, he distributed six shō of rice per person and a total of forty kanmon in coins to all affected persons as pocket money, at his own discretion during the inspection. He also stayed at Fukaya-juku on the 20th of the 8th month before returning to Edo.
On the 1st day of the 9th month, the following officials returned to Edo: Accounts Inspector Negishi Kurōzaemon; Accounts Officials Taguchi Gorōemon, Shinoyama Jūbei, Hashizume Ryōsuke, Hagino Tomoemon; Chief Accounts Officer Toyoda Kinemon; Construction Officials Iizumi Hidezō, Nakata Tōzō, Nagaoka Matahei, Murai Kizō, Tsuruta Unosuke, Ōnishi Eihachi, Sarukawa Tomisaburō, Yoshihama Sahichirō, and Kojima Iemon.
Those assigned to Fukaya-juku were Accounts Official Kurihara Reisuke and two Construction Officials.
