　聞一山の社人｜摧（クダキ）＿一肝膽＿二里民安居之祈願怠
　慢なく修れければ中之野湖￣江行し者御山に
　壱人もなし然る処権田村之者二三人馬艸を刈取けん
　為馬江打乗野端に行池の面を詠むべし
　茫（バウ）〻として水一滴もなし驚き周章ものおも
　言ず迯戻り右之様子を語りければ里人
　笑て曰各〻夢でもミしか又ハ狐狸に化され
　たるか湖水なんそ古ゟしる壱寸もひく事なし
　我之参り実否見届参べき迚五六人打連

現代語訳

宝永四年（丁亥年）、富士山の砂降りの際の後片付けに関するお達し：
- 一寸五分までの積砂：地普請として百石につき二両
- 三寸までの積砂：一万石から三万石の大名、九家が手伝いを命じられる
- 七寸までの積砂：十万石から十五万石の大名が手伝いを命じられる

いずれも三年間の年貢を免除とする。三年間のうちに砂の置き場を一か所設けること。

一、榛名山の野瀬（付近）で浅間山が荒れた際、（榛名湖に）水が一滴もなかったと聞く。はなはだその真偽を確かめがたいが、すでに浅間山の噴火が荒れ狂い、近江へも砂が降ったことは聞いており、山の社人は肝胆を砕いて、里民が安らかに暮らせるよう祈願を怠りなく修めていたところ、榛名湖へ行った者は御山に一人もいなかった。そのような状況の中、権田村の者が二、三人、馬の草を刈り取ろうと馬に乗って野の端へ行き、池の面を眺めると、茫々として水が一滴もない。驚き慌てふためき、ものも言わずに逃げ戻り、その様子を語ると、里人たちは笑って言うには「あなたたちは夢でも見たのか、または狐狸に化かされたのか。湖水がどうして昔から知られているのに、一寸も減ることなどあろうか。私たちが行って、その真偽を見届けてこよう」と言って、五、六人が連れ立って（出かけた）。

英語訳

In the 4th year of Hōei (the year of Hinoto-I, 1707), the following official directives were issued regarding the cleanup after the ash fall from Mt. Fuji:
- For ash accumulation up to 1.5 sun (approx. 4.5 cm): land repair at a cost of 2 ryō per 100 koku
- For accumulation up to 3 sun (approx. 9 cm): Nine domain lords with stipends between 10,000 and 30,000 koku were ordered to assist
- For accumulation up to 7 sun (approx. 21 cm): Domain lords with stipends between 100,000 and 150,000 koku were ordered to assist

In all cases, taxes were to be exempted for three years, and within those three years, a disposal site for the ash was to be established.

One item: It is heard that during the period when Mt. Asama was raging violently near Nose on Mt. Haruna, there was not a single drop of water (in Lake Haruna). It is exceedingly difficult to verify the truth of this, but given that the eruption of Mt. Asama had already raged furiously and that ash had fallen as far as Ōmi Province, the shrine priests of the mountain were earnestly and without neglect performing prayers for the peaceful lives of the villagers. However, those who had gone to Lake Haruna found not a single person on the mountain. Under these circumstances, two or three people from Gonda Village rode on horseback to the edge of the fields to cut grass for their horses, and when they looked out over the surface of the pond, it was utterly and completely dry — not a single drop of water. Astonished and flustered, they fled back without a word and told people of what they had seen. The villagers laughed and said: "Did you see it in a dream? Or were you bewitched by foxes and tanuki? How could the lake, known from ancient times, have dropped even an inch?" And with that, five or six people set out together (to see for themselves).
