現代語訳
この物語は七千九百年ほど昔の事で、どうか一通りに聞いては嘘らしく思われるでしょうが、もっとも嘘ではございません。人魚はもとより不老であり、平次は年が寄りそうになると女房を舐め回して、今でもこの夫婦は存命でいて、今は私人となって忠義を仕えております。この上いくら生きるやら、唐房朔に比べてたった百年違って厄払いの文句には漏れたけれども、金も満足にあり、今でも生きております。
まことに他の草双紙の終わりの出来合いのめでたさとは違い、これは格別にご注文の、とびきりのめでたさであるという次第です。

英語訳
This tale takes place about seven thousand nine hundred years ago, and if you listen to it in an ordinary way, it may seem like a lie, but it is certainly not false. The mermaid is naturally immortal, and when Heiji was about to age, he would lick his wife all over, so this couple is still alive today, now living as private citizens and serving with loyalty. Who knows how much longer they will live - compared to Tang Fangshuo, they are only a hundred years different and escaped the incantations for warding off misfortune, but they have plenty of money and are still alive today.
Truly, unlike the contrived happy endings of other kusazōshi (illustrated storybooks), this is a specially ordered, exceptionally happy ending.
