寝（ネ）て遺情（イセイ）するは保（タモツ）事あたわざるに依（ヨツテ）也

故（ユヘ）に物に押（ヲサ）へられたるがことくおそろしき

現代語訳
寝ている間に精液を漏らす（遺精する）のは、（腎が）保つことができないためである。これが臓（ぞう）から夢を見るということである。また別の説では、陰気の人は水を夢に見る（陰は水に属する）、陽気が盛んな人は火を夢に見る（陽は火に属する）ということがある。これらはすべて、一つの体の中の満ち欠け・消長が天地に通じているためである。そもそも夢とは、我が心から生じ、我が病から生じるものであって、外から来るものではない（五臓と夢についての詳細は『素問』精微論を見るべきである）。また、夢によって吉凶を占うことはあってはならない。いわゆる「愚か者の前で夢を解き明かすようなものだ」ということである。
また問う：胸などに手を当てて眠る時に、必ず恐ろしい夢を見るのはどういうことか。
答えて言う：胸に手を当てて寝る時は気血が通じない。そのために、何かに押さえられているように恐ろしい気持ちが生じるためである。たとえば帯（おび）を敷いて寝ると蛇を夢に見るようなものである。これは気が自然に交わることによってこのようなことが起きるのである。（『列子』穆王篇に「帯を敷いて寝ると蛇を夢に見る、飛ぶ鳥が髪を咥えると空を飛ぶ夢を見る」とある。）

The emission of semen during sleep is due to the inability of the kidneys to retain it. This is what is meant by dreaming through the organs (zang). According to another theory, people of yin constitution dream of water (as yin corresponds to water), and people with vigorous yang energy dream of fire (as yang corresponds to fire). All of these phenomena arise because the fullness and emptiness, the waxing and waning within a single body, are connected to Heaven and Earth. In general, dreams are generated from one's own mind and from one's own illness — they do not come from outside. (For detailed information about the five organs and dreams, one should consult the "Jingwei Lun" [Essay on Essential Subtleties] in the Suwen [Basic Questions].) Furthermore, one should not use dreams to determine good or ill fortune. This is like the saying: "It is like interpreting dreams before a fool."
Another question: Why is it that when one sleeps with one's hand or the like placed on one's chest, one inevitably has frightening dreams?
Answer: When one sleeps with one's hand on one's chest, the flow of qi and blood is obstructed. For this reason, a feeling of fear arises, as if one is being held down by something. It is just like how sleeping on top of one's sash causes one to dream of snakes. This occurs because the qi naturally interacts with physical sensations. (The "Mu Wang" [King Mu] chapter of the Liezi states: "If you sleep lying on your sash, you will dream of snakes; if a flying bird grasps your hair in its beak, you will dream of flying.")
