答えて言う：釜が鳴ることは不思議なことではない。『居家必要』という書物に、「甑（こしき）の蒸気が満ちると必ず釜が鳴る」と述べられている。したがって、甑を取り除けば自然と鳴り止むものである。

According to the "Jinja Kō" (A Study of Shrines), at the Kibitsu Shrine in Bitchū Province (present-day Okayama Prefecture), there is a sacred pot. When worshippers wish to test whether their prayers will be granted or not, they pile rice offerings (shitogi) before the pot, recite Shinto prayers (norito), and then burn brushwood beneath the pot — whereupon the pot sounds like the bellowing of a cow.
