中山道信州佐久問郡軽井沢宿
右宿之儀者浅間山麓に而御座候処去月廿九日ゟ
浅間山大焼震動雷電夥敷家鳴強ク百姓共
追々退候処當月七日夜四つ時頃ゟ大石夥敷降リ
懸り年寄又八と申者之家根江大火石落
艮時に燃立夫ゟ四五ヶ所程も一円に成一宿
不残焼候趣御座候名主六右衛門と申者父子水帳
其外御用書物取出シ命限りに相働取出候処
かむり候竹笠に両度大石落懸り打倒シ
漸く起上り退去申候由六右衛門娘孫下女弐
三人何方江参候や夜中之儀に而不相知定而
石にうたれ相果候やと六右衛門申聞候右其外
怪我人死失候人之程難計候由相届申候

申し出ました。
中山道信州佐久郡軽井沢宿
この宿は浅間山の麓にございますが、先月二十九日から浅間山が大噴火し、地震と雷が激しく、家が鳴動し、百姓たちは次々と避難しました。当月七日夜四つ時頃から大石が激しく降りかかり、年寄りの又八という者の家の屋根に大きな火石が落ちて即座に燃え上がり、そこから四、五か所ほども一面に燃え広がり、宿場全体が残らず焼失したとのことです。名主六右衛門という者が父子で水帳その他の御用書物を取り出そうと命がけで働いて取り出そうとしたところ、かぶっていた竹笠に二度も大石が落ちかかって打ち倒されましたが、ようやく起き上がって避難したとのことです。六右衛門の娘、孫、下女二、三人がどこへ行ったのか、夜中のことでわからず、きっと石に打たれて死んでしまったのだろうと六右衛門が申しておりました。その他にも怪我人や死亡者の数は計り知れないとの届け出がありました。

This post station is located at the foot of Mount Asama. From the 29th of last month, Mount Asama began erupting violently with earthquakes and lightning so severe that houses shook violently, and the peasants fled one after another. From around the fourth hour of the night on the 7th of this month, large stones began falling heavily. A large burning stone fell on the roof of the house of an elderly man named Matahachi, immediately bursting into flames, and from there the fire spread across four or five areas, burning down the entire post town completely. The village headman named Rokurouemon and his father desperately worked to retrieve the water registers and other official documents, risking their lives. While doing so, large stones struck his bamboo hat twice, knocking him down, but he managed to get back up and evacuate. Rokurouemon's daughter, grandchild, and two or three maidservants went somewhere, but because it was the middle of the night, their whereabouts were unknown. Rokurouemon said they were probably struck by stones and killed. The number of other injured and dead is incalculable, according to the report.
