鳥山は日に出す金がふえて、今は三四百両もまわるようになったので、まずふえるのがおもしろくなり、そのうえ瀬川にも
「しゅらに、ああ、これほどの楽しみは唐にもあるまい」
と思い、いよいよ金を貸し出し、今は中の町、伏見町、その他に手回りのきく茶屋どもへ貸し出し、日限りがくれば、かぶろ（禿）、かたち（形）、かせん（囲繞）二人を先へやり、催促させた。

「いや、もうお前たちの言うことがみなもっともで、ごもっともと承知していると聞くが、話にわからないことはありません。心に思うことを申せば、ご無沙汰いたします。二三日のうちにはあなたが江戸へ行くという取り沙汰がありますから、どうぞあさってまで待っておくようにと言っておきなさい。」
「どうも少しこちらにとんだ間違いがあって申し訳がない。」
