現代語訳

数え挙げることができないほど多いとはいえ、あるものは間違いに陥り、あるものは陳腐な内容に属している。この篇で別に引用するところは、およそ三、四十部に達するけれども、今一々書名は挙げない。
一、およそ和漢の地図は、皆誤謬を免れない。薩摩南海の七島のようなものは、従来これを詳しくする者が少ない。ひとり西洋人の地図が精密であることは、論ずるまでもないとはいえ、遥か遠い東洋の琉球群小島のようなものに至っては、なお未だ精密さを尽くしていない。今、伊能氏の実測図、およびドイツ版の一地図を参照し、かたわら諸図と照らし合わせて、この地図を製作した。私がこの著作において、図において、最も精力を尽くした。
一、気候・地質・物産・農工・文教・風俗等の部は、大体沖縄一島の事と理解すべきである。各島は、各々その条下に挙げる。しかしながら、あるいは総論し、あるいは混在して出す。互いに参照すべきである。
一、諸島周囲の里法は、大略を記す。各島の距離は、省いて載せない。経緯度によって計り知ることができる。緯度の一度は、二十八里余、経度は琉球地方のような場合、大体緯度と同じ計算をして、その大略を得ることができる。その経度は、英国グリニッジより算する者に拠る。
一、四季の月名は、旧暦の称に依る。改める暇がない。地名人名は左右に単柱を施す。開闢の事、および為朝の事歴は、俗説を録して巻末に附す。

are too numerous to enumerate, but some contain errors and falsehoods, while others are obsolete. Although this work separately cites approximately thirty to forty volumes, I do not list each title individually here.
1. Generally speaking, all Japanese and Chinese maps contain errors. Regarding places like the seven islands of southern Satsuma, few have described them in detail until now. While Western maps are undoubtedly more precise, even they have not yet achieved complete accuracy for remote places like the small islands of the Ryukyu archipelago in the far East. I have now consulted Inō's surveyed maps and a German map, cross-referencing them with various other maps to produce this map. In this work, I devoted my greatest efforts to the cartography.
1. The sections on climate, geology, products, agriculture and industry, education, customs, etc. should be understood as primarily concerning Okinawa Island. Each island is listed under its respective entry. However, some are discussed in general terms while others appear mixed together. These should be cross-referenced with each other.
1. The measurements of the circumference of the various islands record only approximate figures. The distances between islands are omitted and not recorded, but can be calculated based on longitude and latitude. One degree of latitude equals slightly more than 28 ri; for longitude in the Ryukyu region, one can obtain the approximate distance by calculating it the same as latitude. The longitude is based on calculations from Greenwich, England.
1. The names of the months for the four seasons follow the old calendar system, as there was no time to revise them. Place names and personal names are marked with simple vertical lines on both sides. Accounts of the creation of the world and the historical chronicles of Tameomo are recorded as folk traditions and appended at the end of the volume.
