これより諸々に考え見るに、「オホーツク」の港よりロシア国の官船が出帆して、日本の東洋（東方の海）数里の大洋を隔てた先に、北アメリカというものがあり、おおよそ北極より南極の両直下に一帯に広がる大国がある。この国へ渡海したとのことを、「イシユヨ」が私に詳しく話してくれた。まず最初には大船三艘にて出帆したが、その国は海上を隔てること遠き故か、渡海に手間取り、「オホーツク」に帰ってから再び王命があり、大舶九艘に国産の物を充満に積み蓄えて、一艘に人数およそ七十人ほどずつ乗り組んで出帆したとのことである。

Reflecting carefully on all of this, I find that from the port of "Okhotsk," Russian government vessels set sail across a vast ocean lying several leagues to the east of Japan, beyond which lies what is called North America — a great nation stretching in a broad belt, roughly between directly below the North Pole and directly below the South Pole. "Ishiyoha" told me in detail about the voyage made to that country. First, they set out with three large ships, but perhaps because the sea crossing to that country was so very far, they were delayed in the voyage and returned to "Okhotsk." Thereafter, a royal command was issued again, and nine large vessels were loaded to capacity with domestic goods, with roughly seventy persons boarding each ship, and they set out once more.
