なり唯今なとはいかに思ふても浮世静ならはならす候年いく
つなり共十五六の時分と心得て無理なる事をせよと被申候時
若き衆十五六と心得可申事いかゝ心持候はんと申候へは別の事

人のいかぬ処ならはいかむと思ひ只一筋に見合なしにあふなく
おもはてかゝりていきたらは手柄死ざらはしそこなひても手

現代語訳
である。今などはいかに思っても浮世は静かではないが、年がいくつになっても十五、六の時分と心得て無理なことをせよと申された時、若い衆が「十五、六と心得申すべきこと、いかがな心持ちでございましょうか」と申したところ、「別のことはない。いつでも見合わせなしに、人のできないことをしようと思い、人の行かない処へは行こうと思い、ただ一筋に見合わせなしに危険を恐れずにかかっていけば、手柄である。死ななければ失敗しても手柄になる。我が生きて失敗を人が謗るのを聞かず、名を残すと思えば心安くしてよい。総大将でもないのに味方の負けを思うのは、皆見合わせから出来る分別である。し遂げればよし、し損なえばその分と思う心で、ただ一筋にせよ。し損なって死ぬことは人が真似できないゆえ、謗る人は無能者である」とお教えになった。
《刀の研ぎ》
一 刀は中砥にしたのが良いと権現様が仰った由である。まずよく切れるものである。また夜などひからせてよき由、各々申された。
《忍びのこと》
一 忍びの時は高い処へ寄らないものである。夜も黒くよく見える。窪んだ処がよい由。
一 かまり（忍び）の時はなおさら高所は悪い。道が窪んだ所にいればよく聞こえるものである。窪んだ処を物慣れない者は嫌がって高い処へ上がりたがるものである。
一 信長・信忠殿父子が一所にご座候ゆえ一度にお滅びになった。総じて城とほど近く一所には取らないものである。親子城といって嫌う由、山本勘助が申した由。
