うちわるて云始御互に心置して万々気遣して破るゝ事あり
又付入は敵なにかたはかり城中を引出したかりてよは〳〵とあいしらひ
計略をなすを打取候はんとて一人出候へは我おとらしと出候処
はや其人数引とりかね付入に城へ入るもの也此三つを能々可心得候
よし常に権現様御意にて候まゝ各能々心得候へ城主は城を取
られぬやう大手柄出ての働は一向誉ぬ事也と被仰候此上は各覚
悟次第能々可相守の由上意也と物語也
一其序に物語に信玄駿河蒲原城の前浜手を甲州衆の小荷
駄通候を蒲原城より出追落し取候を信玄重て土俵又は
草なとを荷物のやうに拵へ右の浜はたを通し城の前又は後
の山にかくし勢を置て右の荷物通り候時城中より各出追
落し取んとせしを小荷駄に付候者共少々防き候に付て猶城
をあけ皆々出候時前後より時の戸（声歟）をあけ攻入候故即時に城を取候
よし米倉丹後物かたり也
一権現様駿河もち舟の城【持船城】御取被成候時先手松平周防守也城主
各せり合候をわざとよわ〳〵と引寄人数一人もかゝり候事無用

現代語訳
内訳して言い始め、お互いに心置きして、万々気を遣って破綻することがある。また付け入りは、敵が何かの計略で城中を引き出したがって、弱々しく相手をして計略をなすのを討ち取ろうとして一人出れば、我も負けじと出るところを、はやその人数を引き取りかね、付け入りに城へ入るものである。この三つをよくよく心得るべしとのこと。常に権現様の御意であるから、各々よくよく心得よ。城主は城を取られぬよう、大手柄を出しての働きは一向に誉めぬことであると仰せになった。この上は各々覚悟次第、よくよく相守るべしとの上意であると物語である。

一 権現様が駿河持船城を御取りになった時、先手は松平周防守である。城主各々が競り合うのを、わざと弱々しく引き寄せ、人数一人もかかることは無用と御下知になって、空負けしてある程に、城衆が出る時、御返しですぐに付け入り御取りになったという。新見彦右衛門の物語である。
《割書：矢文》
一 籠城の時、矢文が入れば、城中家人が疑い申し、誰が持ち口へ矢を集めたかなどと言って、城内心許なきものに候間、計略に攻め手より矢文などを射入れるという物語である。
《割書：雪隠の作り様》
一 城中雪隠作り様のこと。靫を付けても刀を差してもその儘座れるように、広く五尺ばかりずつに作るという。
一 同じく不浄流しのこと。捨て曲輪に堀を掘る、または川などを丸の内へ取り込み

When they send out one person to strike down what seems like a ploy, others rush out saying they won't be outdone, but then they cannot withdraw their forces in time, allowing enemy infiltration into the castle. These three points should be well understood. As this was always Gongensama's intention, everyone should understand well. A castle lord should focus on not losing the castle - making great displays of individual heroics is not praiseworthy at all, he said. From now on, it depends on each person's resolve to guard well, such was the lord's intention, according to this account.

In a related story, when Shingen's Kōshū troops were transporting supplies along the beach in front of Kambara Castle in Suruga, the castle garrison sallied forth to drive them off and capture them. Shingen then had earth bags or grass bundles made to look like baggage, sent them along the same beach route, and placed hidden troops in the mountains before and behind the castle. When this fake baggage train passed and the castle defenders all came out to drive them off and capture them, since those accompanying the supply train offered only light resistance, the castle opened up and everyone came out. At that moment, war cries arose from front and rear as the hidden troops attacked, and the castle was taken immediately. This was a story told by Yonekura Tango.
1. When Gongensama captured Mochifune Castle in Suruga, Matsudaira Suō-no-kami led the vanguard. When the castle defenders competed with each other in sallying forth, he deliberately appeared weak to draw them in, giving orders that not a single man should engage seriously. By feigning defeat to this extent, when the castle troops came out, he immediately counterattacked and infiltrated to capture it. This was a story told by Niimi Hikoemon.
