わたり此道の物語なとひとつにつゝりものし
てあつさにいのち長らせはやと乞けれはさ
もあらは翁の本意にかなひ汝か業の道
の幸とならむことうたかふへきにあらす
とかのそゝら書をあたへけれは幾ほともな
く三まきのふみとなしぬ今昔の好人たち
は更にもいはす己もよろこひのあまり其事のよし
をいさゝかまきのしりへにしるしぬ

　　忠暁翁やつかれに筆者せよと

現代語訳

【右丁】
渡って、この道の物語などをひとつにまとめて書き記して、「厚情により命を長らえさせてほしい」と願ったところ、「そうであるならば翁の本意にかない、汝の業の道の幸いとなることは疑うべきではない」と、かの雑多な書き物を与えてくれたので、いくらもたたないうちに三巻の書物となった。今昔の愛好家たちは言うまでもなく、自分も喜びのあまり、その事の次第を少しばかり巻の終わりに記すのである。

and crossing over, I compiled stories of this way and other matters into one collection and wrote them down, requesting that "through your kind consideration, please let this work live long." In response, they gave me those miscellaneous writings, saying "If that is so, it will accord with the old man's true intention, and there is no doubt it will become a blessing for the path of your profession." Before long, it became a book of three volumes. Not only the enthusiasts of past and present, but I too, in my excess of joy, record the circumstances of this matter briefly at the end of this volume.
