　はすその草木の性を解する時は万木千草みな同し道理なるへし
○鉢植の草木時節を好み植替六ッヶ敷類多しといへとも春三月秋八月この
　両月は椿さゝん花凡葉もの杉ひはの類至てよし
○凡の草木虫は目に見へすして木をからすす也されは虫なき木と思ふとも
　よく再三熟覧して虫をさる事肝要也諸品共に右に同し心得なるへし
○鉢植を多く集め楽しむ人は日向かげ或は極陰中なとそれ〳〵に好む草木
　あれは先達にたより差別を弄弁ふへし
○すへての草木流行の時節あり其時には種々さま〳〵の品数出来るもの也
　その時よく見覚之え置へし
○培養をなすにそれ〳〵の道具を用ゆれは悉甚便利なるへしと也則水翁工夫
　の器并刃もの図に委し後編篇に出す
○種樹培養を好むもの貴人老人を論せす培養移栽心をゆたね身を勤動し
　気血をめくらし目をよろこはしめ気をやしなはゝ其是園囿は仙境にして

現代語訳

【右丁】
　ばその草木の性質を理解する時は、万木千草すべて同じ道理であろう。
○鉢植えの草木は時期を選んで植え替える。難しい種類が多いとはいえ、春三月と秋八月のこの
　両月は、椿・山茶花・その他葉物・杉・檜の類に至って良い時期である。
○すべての草木において、虫は目に見えないで木を枯らすものである。そのため虫がいない木と思っても、
　よく再三熟覧して虫を除去することが肝要である。諸品ともに右と同じ心得であるべきである。
○鉢植えを多く集めて楽しむ人は、日向・日陰あるいは極陰中など、それぞれに好む草木が
　あるので、先達に頼って区別を習うべきである。
○すべての草木には流行の時節があり、その時には種々様々の品数が出現するものである。
　その時によく見覚えて置くべきである。
○培養を行うにそれぞれの道具を用いれば、すべて甚だ便利であろうということである。すなわち水翁工夫
　の器具並びに刃物は図に詳しく、後編に出す。
○種樹培養を好む者は、貴人・老人を問わず、培養・移植に心を緩やかにし、身を勤め動かし、
　気血を巡らし、目を喜ばしめ、気を養えば、その庭園は仙境であって、
　まさに不老不死の薬草木ではないだろうか。

○Potted plants prefer specific seasons for repotting. Though there are many difficult varieties, these two months—the third month of spring and eighth month of autumn—are excellent for camellias, sasanquas, general leafy plants, and cedar and cypress varieties.
○With all plants and trees, insects damage wood invisibly to the eye. Therefore, even if you think there are no insects on a tree, it is essential to examine it carefully and repeatedly to remove insects. This same understanding should apply to all varieties.
○People who collect and enjoy many potted plants should rely on experts to learn the distinctions, as different plants prefer sun, shade, or deep shade respectively.
○All plants and trees have seasons when they are in fashion, and at such times various types and quantities appear. You should observe and remember them well at such times.
○When cultivating, using appropriate tools for each purpose will be extremely convenient. The tools and blades devised by Mizuno-ō are detailed in illustrations and will appear in the later volume.
○Those who enjoy tree planting and cultivation, whether nobles or elderly people, should approach cultivation and transplanting with a relaxed heart, diligent physical activity, circulating qi and blood, delighting the eyes, and nourishing the spirit. Then their gardens become fairylands, truly like immortal medicinal plants and trees.
