夕波に濡れた色合いの月影を稲葉の露に映して見ている
十二日 今日も空は晴れている 日金山というのは十の国々、いくつもの島々が見える山であると以前から聞いていたので、今日はそこへ行こうと早朝から起きて旅支度をしようとしたが、準備が整わずに出立することができなかった。
露もまだ乾かない草の葉に鈴虫が鳴き立つ中、降り立ちがたい霧がまだ晴れない木々の梢に朝風が吹き渡るのも身にしみて、秋かと思われるほどである。これは山道だからであろう。足の向くままに笹の原を踏み分けて登っていくうちに、少し開けた場所で朝日が差し昇るにつれて、名も知らぬ山々が連なっているのが目の前に見えてきた。

12th day: Today the sky is also clear. I had heard that Mount Higane is a mountain from which ten provinces and many islands can be seen, so today I planned to go there and got up early to prepare for the journey, but I was unable to organize my things properly and could not depart.
With dew still undried on the grass leaves where bell crickets chirp, and mist still lingering on the treetops where the morning wind blows, it feels so much like autumn that it chills me to the bone. This must be because we are on a mountain path. Following where my feet led me, I climbed through bamboo grass fields, and when I reached a somewhat open area where the morning sun began to rise, I could see unnamed mountains stretching before my eyes.

From the peak of Mount Higane in Kamo District, Izu Province, one can view ten provinces and five islands:
From northeast to east: Sagami, Musashi, Awa, Kazusa, and Shimosa provinces
From southeast to southwest: Five islands belonging to these provinces and Totomi Province
From west to northwest: Suruga, Shinano, and Kai provinces
In the 8th month of Tenmei 3 (1783), built at the request of Watanabe Bō, village headman of Atami, by Moritori Izumo Kōei Minamoto no Kiyokō and others, reclusive scholars from Edo.
