木のもとにあらしのあとをみつ栗のなか〳〵秋に
おとらさりけり巳のくたちより風なぎ空はれわたれり
みこしむかへにとて人々み山にのほるやかて猨田毘古の
命のみかたまねひたるかさきおひてさてみつるきみはた
神子楽人つき〳〵にねりきて それよりみこしそわたらせ
たまふかしまをとりは一やうにふきてとあふきとを持た
をとるなりをさたちたるはひさくとさくしやうものを
もてりうたあげといふかありて うたふかね太鼓もてはうし
とるなりいにしへの手ふりののこれるさまみゆうたもいまめ
かすそのうた
ちはやふる神々をいさめなれはみろく踊めてたし

現代語訳
木の下に嵐の跡を見つけ、栗が中々秋にも劣らぬ様子であった。午前十時頃より風が凪ぎ、空が晴れ渡った。
御神輿迎えということで人々が御山に登る。やがて猿田毘古の命の御形を真似た笠を着けて、そのように身を飾った神主や巫女、楽人が次々に練り来て、それより御神輿が渡らせられる。
鹿島踊りは一様に笛を吹いて、扇と扇を持ち踊るものである。長老たちは久々と笏、そして様々な物を持っている。歌上げということがあって、歌うかねや太鼓を持って囃し立てるのである。古の手振りが残っている様子が見える。歌も今風ではなく、その歌は：
「ちはやぶる神々を讃めなれば、弥勒踊りめでたし」

Under the trees, seeing the aftermath of the storm, the chestnuts were quite splendid, not inferior to autumn itself. From around 10 AM, the wind calmed and the sky cleared completely.
For welcoming the portable shrine, people climbed the sacred mountain. Soon, wearing hats imitating the form of Sarutahiko no Mikoto, thus adorned shrine priests, shrine maidens, and musicians came in procession one after another, and then the portable shrine was carried across.
The Kashima dance is performed uniformly with flute playing, holding and dancing with fans. The elders carry ritual wands and various objects. There is something called "song-raising," where they sing while holding bells and drums to provide accompaniment. The ancient gestures can be seen preserved. The songs are not in modern style, and one such song goes:
"Praising the mighty gods, the Maitreya dance is auspicious"
