司の人がその熱海に湯浴みしようということをここの朝廷に問い申し上げた。これは彼の地での戦いで受けた痛手が今も癒えないので、それを治そうとしてのことであるという。まのあたり見ていよいよ語り告げよとて、宿に身を寄せる許可があったのであろう。されば今年慶応元年の五月二十七日に門出しようというのである。物騒な外国人の様子が変わったのを不審に思って、田舎の者どもが何か良からぬことをしやしないかと、共に彼の地に行って何くれの事を用心せよとの仰せ言を被ったので、急いで旅支度をし、しばしのこととはいえ別れ慣れていないのでと 宮本黄洲

The official requested permission from the court here to take hot spring baths at Atami. This was because the wounds he received in the battles in that region had still not healed, and he sought to cure them through the hot springs. Seeing this with their own eyes and being told to report back thoroughly, permission to lodge there was likely granted. Therefore, they planned to depart on the 27th day of the 5th month of Keio 1 (1865). Being suspicious of the changed behavior of the troublesome foreigners, and concerned that the country folk might engage in some improper activities, he received imperial orders to go there together and be vigilant about various matters. He hurriedly prepared for the journey, and though it would be brief, he was unaccustomed to such farewells. — Miyamoto Kōshū
