1. Regarding hatamoto, while it is of course proper to open the gate for them, even if they modestly request to use the small gate out of deference, one should inquire whether they are indeed hatamoto and open the main gate to escort them. The above matters shall be observed without error. Anei 9, Year of the Metal Rat, 3rd month 1. On the 3rd day of the 12th month of Kansei 2, Year of the Dog, regarding the matter of the traditional thoroughfare at the front gate of the Reiganjima middle residence, Lord Ishino Tōtōmi-no-kami summoned [us], so castle messenger Sasaki Yosuke was dispatched. The separate document shows what Tōtōmi-no-kami conveyed. At that time, subordinate officials of the construction office were present, and Koma Shikibu conveyed that each matter should be handled according to the content of the above document. Document delivered from the Construction Magistrates The area enclosed as a thoroughfare for the front gate within Higashi Minato-chō in front of the middle residence gate of Matsudaira Echizen-no-kami at Reiganjima is land granted to Echizen-no-kami during the Kanei period, so it is not appropriate to entrust it to town headmen and others. It should not be blocked off before and after nor made into a storage area. Even if there is currently no passage through the front gate, it should be maintained as a thoroughfare in its traditional form, as conveyed by Etchū-no-kami. Therefore, this is communicated. 12th month Addition 1. For those in permanent residence, gate entry and exit is limited to 6:30 according to regulations However, the same applies to lower-ranking retainers 1. For those on duty rotation, gate entry and exit is limited to 6 o'clock at evening However, the same applies to lower-ranking retainers 1. While the gate for those in permanent residence closes at 6:30, when the evening 6 o'clock bell rings, it shall be temporarily closed, and from then those going to the riverbank shall use paper passes for entry and exit. Wood passes shall not be used from evening time. However, various merchants shall enter and exit only until evening 6 o'clock. Also, if riverbank workers report unavoidable business, after receiving and acknowledging their request, both entry and exit shall be permitted with approval from the other party. Furthermore, townspeople conveying official business may enter and exit after 6 o'clock if their business is acknowledged and received. 1. For visiting messengers coming from elsewhere to the retainer quarters who carry swords, both parties' master names shall be inquired into and recorded in the register before allowing passage. Even for those carrying one sword, the same inquiry shall be made and wooden passes issued for passage. When it becomes evening, those without wooden passes or registry entries shall be examined, and if they remain within the residence, wait until the prescribed time, and if they still do not emerge, investigate the other party. 1. When townspeople are summoned to the retainer quarters, there should be notification from the other party to the gate. When returning, an escort
