御下乗夫ゟ陽明御門内御左之方廻廊に御扣被遊日光奉行衆天野山城守殿御目代
山口忠兵衛殿被罷出候以前御内御稽古被遊夫ゟ又々廻廊に御扣被遊山城守殿忠兵衛殿
御宮へ被相詰夫ゟ御参詣神酒御奉幣御頂戴尤御別当大楽院被出其外

上り候間、右の面々の草履取は御玄関前へ罷り越し候につき、青漆合羽草履は
き苦しからざる事。もっとも御平生外御勤めの節も同断。
一、御小道具の者御中間等は只今までの通り草鞋相用いるべき事。もっとも御草履取は只今
までの通りの事。
一、御供先において総て御供目付指図の趣違背申すべからざる事。兼ねて家来の者共へもその
旨堅く申し付けらるべく候。
但し末々の者又者共、押足軽指図申し聞かせ候趣違背申すべからず候。
右の趣兼ねて相心得、家来の者へも堅く申し付けらるべく候。以上

[Red notation] "1. Samurai and foot soldiers may consult and use straw sandals or grass sandals as appropriate. Lower-ranking personnel and young retainers of the domain may use straw sandals or waraji at their discretion. 1. Sword-bearing attendants shall not use straw sandals."
Tabi are prohibited for middle ranks.

However, during castle attendance, middle councilors, senior retainers, personal attendants, and those in formal dress
ascend to the ceremonial platform, so the sandal bearers for these individuals proceed to the front of the main entrance, and blue lacquered rain sandals may be worn without issue. This also applies during regular outside duties.
1. Small equipment handlers, middle-rank attendants, etc. shall use straw sandals as before. Sandal bearers shall continue as before.
1. During retinue duty, the instructions of retinue inspectors must not be disobeyed in any matter. This must be strictly communicated to retainers as well.
However, lower-ranking personnel and attendants, as well as pressed foot soldiers, must not disobey the instructions given to them.
The above should be understood in advance and strictly communicated to retainers as well. End.

Yaori considers that these retinue regulations may be from the era of Lord Genryūin, though this is not yet confirmed. The regulations on the third page before and those marked with water drops are believed to be regulations proclaimed during the era of Lord Ryūtokuin.

1. On the 13th day of the 4th month of An'ei 5 (Year of the Monkey), the Shogun made a shrine visit to Mount Nikkō, and it was proclaimed that after his return, visits may be made at one's convenience. It was announced that departure from Edo would be on the 16th day of the 6th month and the visit on the 20th. Accordingly, for inspecting lodgings along the route, Court Calendar Keeper Tateiwa Heiuemon and Foot Soldier Inspector Yajima Jūuemon proceeded. On the morning of the 20th day of the 6th month, at the dawn bell at Mount Nikkō at the 6th hour, departure was made from Hachiishi Station, wearing court dress, plain robes, and white court garments as for New Year's retinue. At the first torii of the shrine, dismounting occurred, then proceeding to the left corridor within Yōmei Gate where waiting took place. Before Nikkō Magistrates Lord Amano Yamashiro-no-kami and Deputy Yamaguchi Chūbei appeared, private practice was conducted, then waiting again in the corridor. Lord Yamashiro-no-kami and Chūbei attended at the shrine, then shrine worship with sacred sake offering and receiving sacred offerings, with Head Priest Dairakuin appearing along with other shrine personnel and monks. Then worship at the mausoleum was conducted. After this was completed, entry was made to the lodging temple Jōdoin for changing clothes. After completion, viewing of the shrine, mausoleum, Goma hall, and Honji hall was conducted, and worship at Takio was performed. Indeed, viewing of everything was ordered, then entry again to Jōdoin, after which return to Hachiishi Station was made. On the following 21st day at that station
