竹島氏の心中いかにありけむ
此家に弆蔵せる天海僧正御哥短冊一軸の箱に入りし侭溝の中へ落て
流けるを翌日見出し取上て全かりし由
世の中はあられはあるにまかせつゝ心にいたく物な思ひそ《割書：天海と｜あるよし》
〇玉楼の宝とせし菅家御真筆の弥陀経焼失のよし歎くへし 定家
卿の色紙も又亡ひたりとそ其余【餘】廓中に名筆名画珍宝等数を尽し
て亡ひたる由なり

抱へ上人の吉原十二月画賛巻物等も焼たり
【注 『新古今集』所収の「秋の夕暮れ」を結びの句とした三首の和歌のこと。それぞれ寂蓮・西行・定家の歌。「法帖」とは、先人の筆跡または碑文などを習字の手本や観賞用に模写、臨写したものをいう】
〇娼家何某吉原堤の裂けたる間へ落たり自￣ラ上る事ならす大音に叫
ひてわれ三百両の金を持たり助て呉たらん人には半を頒ち与へんと
いひけれは或者助けよて首にかけたる財布を奪ひ取り突放していつ
ちへか逃去しとなり
〇吉原の人神田辺の人の話を聞しに或る所に狐付あり九月下旬口走
て来月二日には大地震あるへしと語りけるとこれを聞る人々さして
心にもとめさりしに果して此地震有其後来る九日にはふたゝひ大
地震あるへしと云しとかたり先の言葉符合せしかは吉原の人々俄にい
ひのゝしり広【廣】地へ資財を運ひ畳を敷高張の挑灯を燈しつゝ待居たり

この家に保蔵されていた天海僧正の御歌短冊一軸が箱に入ったまま溝の中へ落ちて流されたが、翌日見つけて取り上げたところ完全であったという。
世の中はあられはあるにまかせつつ心にいたく物な思ひそ（天海作とのこと）
○玉楼の宝としていた菅原道真御真筆の弥陀経が焼失したとのこと、嘆かわしいことである。定家卿の色紙もまた失われたという。その他廓中では名筆・名画・珍宝等数知れず失われたとのことである。
○応挙の筆による夜桜の画幅は娼家の珍蔵であったが焼けたとのこと。
○花明園西村氏も名器の釜・三夕法帖その他、先代藐庵主人が書画を好み古筆を数多く蔵していたものを残らず失ったとのことである。光琳の筆による三平二満（おかめ）

○娼家の何某が吉原堤の裂けた間へ落ちた。自分で上ることができず大声で叫んで「私は三百両の金を持っている。助けてくれた人には半分を分け与えよう」と言ったところ、ある者が助けるふりをして首にかけていた財布を奪い取り、突き放してどこかへ逃げ去ったという。
○吉原の人が神田辺りの人の話を聞いたところ、ある所に狐憑きがいて、九月下旬に口走って「来月二日には大地震があるだろう」と語ったという。これを聞く人々はさして心に留めなかったが、果たしてこの地震があり、その後「来る九日にはふたたび大地震があるだろう」と言ったと語った。先の言葉が符合したので吉原の人々は俄かに騒ぎ立て、広い場所へ資財を運び、畳を敷き高張提灯を灯しながら待っていた。

A scroll of poem strips by the monk Tenkai that had been stored in this house fell into a ditch while still in its box and was carried away by the current, but was found and retrieved the next day in perfect condition.

○The Amida Sutra in the authentic calligraphy of Sugawara no Michizane, treasured as a gem of the pleasure quarter, was lost to fire - truly lamentable. A piece of colored paper by Lord Teika was also lost. Countless other famous calligraphy works, paintings, and precious treasures in the quarter were similarly destroyed.
○A hanging scroll painting of night cherry blossoms by Ōkyo, which had been a precious collection of a brothel, was burned.
○Nishimura of Kameiyen also lost a famous tea kettle, the Sanyū calligraphy collection, and numerous other ancient calligraphy pieces that the previous master Myakuan had collected due to his love of calligraphy and painting - all were completely lost. Kōrin's painting of Sanpei Niman (Okame masks)

and Hōitsu's scroll paintings with verses of the twelve months of Yoshiwara were also burned.
○A certain courtesan fell into a crack that had opened in the Yoshiwara embankment. Unable to climb out by herself, she cried out loudly: "I have three hundred ryō in gold! I will give half to whoever helps me!" Whereupon someone pretended to help her but snatched the purse hanging around her neck, pushed her away, and fled.
○A person from Yoshiwara heard a story from someone in the Kanda area about a fox-possessed person who, in late September, blurted out "There will be a great earthquake on the second of next month." People who heard this paid little attention, but indeed this earthquake occurred, and afterward the person said "There will be another great earthquake on the coming ninth day." Since the previous prediction had proven true, the people of Yoshiwara suddenly became agitated and moved their belongings to open ground, spreading out tatami mats and lighting tall lanterns while waiting.
