右楓園話
〇浅草山の宿町に柏屋そよとて船宿をもて活業とせる強欲の寡婦あり
二日の夜吉原町なる娼家兄庄助《割書：小格子》といへる者方泊り合し家潰れて
空く成れり 右村田平右衛門殿話
〇吉原町産屋長島屋某頗る冨り田町なる妾宅へ趣き地震にあひ
て逃出たりしか家に帰らす其後尋れ共知れす田町の往還にて両
側の家潰れし時これにふれかつ大にあひて亡ひたるなるへしと又
吉原町なる清元岩戸太夫も田町なる知る人の所へ趣き地震におとろ
き己か家へとて帰りけるか道にてうせしにや其行方を知らすとなん

梅の木に取すがりてありし内家潰れ妻子抱の遊女其外合家皆

〇池の端仲町日野屋忠蔵《割書：小間物器物を｜商ふ冨家也》も此日花街に行て帰らす
右久保啓蔵殿話
〇京橋辺の家主三人近きあたりの人死して野辺送りのかへさ【帰り】青楼
に登りしか家傾しかは一人先に飛下らんとしけるか二階なれは高き
心にて飛下りしかいつしか根太落下りしかは向ふの方へ飛過隣家
の傾たるに頭を打当て悩めり跡の二人是を知り足を延したるに漸
く地に付たれは飛はすして逃れたりかゝる折には狼狽するもの

○浅草山の宿町に柏屋そよという船宿を営業として生計を立てている強欲な寡婦がいた。
二日の夜、吉原町にある遊郭兄庄助（小格子）という者の所に泊まり合わせたが、家が潰れて
空（から）になった。 右は村田平右衛門殿の話
○吉原町の産屋長島屋某は非常に裕福で、田町にある妾の家へ出かけ、地震に遭って
逃げ出したが、家に帰らず、その後探したが分からない。田町の往還で両
側の家が潰れた時、これに触れかつ大いに遭って死んだのであろうという。また
吉原町の清元岩戸太夫も田町の知り合いの所へ出かけ、地震に驚いて
自分の家へと帰ろうとしたが、道中で亡くなったのか、その行方が分からないという。

○同じく小格子の遊郭井箇屋某は地震の時恐怖して庭へ駆け出し、
梅の木に取りすがっていたうちに家が潰れ、妻子や抱えの遊女その他一家皆
失ったという。 同人の話
○池の端仲町の日野屋忠蔵（小間物器物を商う富家である）もこの日花街に行って帰らなかった。
右は久保啓蔵殿の話
○京橋辺りの家主三人が近くの人の死去による野辺送りの帰りに遊郭
に上がったが、家が傾いたので一人が先に飛び降りようとしたが、二階なので高い
つもりで飛び降りたところ、いつの間にか根太が落下していたので向こうの方へ飛び過ぎ、隣家
の傾いたものに頭を打ち当てて苦しんだ。後の二人はこれを知り、足を延ばしたところやっと
地に着いたので、飛ばずに逃れた。このような時には狼狽するものである。

○In Yamano-shukumachi in Asakusa, there was a greedy widow named Kashiwaya Soyo who made her living operating a boat inn.
On the night of the second, she happened to be staying at a brothel called Ani Shōsuke (a small lattice house) in Yoshiwara-chō, but the house collapsed and became empty. The above from Lord Murata Heiemon's account
○A certain Nagashimaya from a birthing house in Yoshiwara-chō was quite wealthy and had gone to his mistress's house in Tamachi. He encountered the earthquake and escaped, but did not return home. Though searched for afterward, he could not be found. When houses on both sides of the Tamachi highway collapsed, he must have been caught in this and greatly affected, resulting in his death. Also, Kiyomoto Iwato-dayū from Yoshiwara-chō had gone to an acquaintance's place in Tamachi and, startled by the earthquake, tried to return to his own house, but whether he died on the road or not, his whereabouts are unknown.

○Similarly, a certain Ikaya from a small lattice brothel was terrified during the earthquake and ran out to the garden, clinging to a plum tree. While he was there, the house collapsed and he lost his wife, children, the courtesans in his employ, and all the rest of his household. From the same person's account
○Hinoya Chūzō from Ikenohata Nakamachi (a wealthy family dealing in sundries and utensils) also went to the pleasure quarter on this day and did not return.

○Three landlords from around Kyōbashi had gone to a brothel on their way back from a funeral procession for someone who had died nearby. When the house tilted, one of them tried to jump down first, but thinking it was high because it was the second floor, he jumped down only to find that the floor joists had somehow fallen, so he flew too far toward the opposite direction and hit his head against the tilted neighboring house, suffering pain. The other two, seeing this, extended their legs and barely reached the ground, so they escaped without jumping. In such times, people become frantic.
