〇両国橋東詰に香具芝居【こうぐしばい】といへるもの常にありこれに出る俳優を
雇ひ吉はら水道尻【江戸の元吉原および、新吉原遊郭内にあった郭内の上水道の終点周辺の名。】の寄せ場に於て夜毎に芝居興行せんとて
十月二日を初日と定めしかは彼俳優音曲者其余【餘】劇場に携【つらな】り
しもの大勢かしこに趣しか障る事ありて此夜興行ならすしかる
に京町弐丁目娼家武蔵屋某この役者の内贔屓の者有りしかは残
らすおのが家にいざなひ酒飯を饗してありしころ震出して家

出たりしかいまた火の焼来る迄は間遠也とてふたゝひ此穴ゟ這入おのれ
か衣類羽織懐中の品々抔【など】取出し帯をしめかへ又連れなる男の着替
等迄残りなく尋出して携帰りさすかに上方者落付たるはからひなりと

者大勢がそこに出かけたが、支障があってこの夜興行は行われなかった。しかし
京町二丁目の遊郭武蔵屋某はこの役者の中に贔屓の者がいたので、残らず
自分の家に招いて酒食でもてなしていたところ、地震が起こって家が
潰れ、主人を始め、幾世（女形役者）、梅蔵（立役役者）というものが亡くなった。この梅蔵
は深川六間堀に住んでいたが、その家も潰れて妻と子供二人が同時に死亡した

○At the east end of Ryōgoku Bridge, there was always something called "kōgu shibai" (prop theater), and they had hired actors who appeared in it to perform theater every night at the gathering place at Yoshiwara Suidō-jiri, with October 2nd set as the opening day. So many actors, musicians, and others connected to the theater went there, but due to some obstruction, no performance took place that night. However, a certain Musashiya brothel in Kyōmachi 2-chōme had a patron among these actors, so he invited them all to his house and was entertaining them with food and drink when the earthquake occurred and the house collapsed. The master and others including Ikuyo (an onnagata actor) and Umazō (a tachiyaku actor) perished. A merchant who happened to be staying there barely ended up on the ceiling boards, and noticing spider webs tangled above his head, he used all his strength to break through the attic and finally crawled out, running back to his own house. A customer from Kyoto who was traveling with him also crawled out together, but saying there was still time before the fire would reach them, he crawled back into this hole again and took out his own clothing, haori coat, personal items from his pocket, retied his obi sash, and even searched out all the change of clothes for his male companion and brought them back.
