川宿程ヶ谷宿所に崩れ多く本牧金沢【澤】鎌倉江の島浦賀辺まて中
山道は上州高崎を限り此街道は地より砂湧出清水あふるゝ所
諸所にあり蕨宿より大宮の間さはり多し
甲州街道八王子限り街道させる【さほどの】事なし日光街道は宇都宮限
り街道崩有之分は草加なり 水戸街道は土浦辺を限り街道崩
所々に見ゆる下総筋は逆井近辺【邊】震ひ強く行徳船橋辺同
所葛西領二合半領は崩諸所也又松戸市川柴又辺も崩多し
と聞ゆる其外在郷市中とも見積之所高台【臺】之地は格別之事な

○この度の地震のその範囲は明確ではないが、大体聞くところによると、東海道では神奈川宿・程ヶ谷宿などに崩壊が多く、本牧・金沢・鎌倉・江ノ島・浦賀辺りまで被害があった。中山道では上州高崎を境とし、この街道では地面から砂が湧き出し清水が溢れる場所が諸所にある。蕨宿から大宮の間は支障が多い。
甲州街道は八王子まで、街道にはさほどのことはない。日光街道は宇都宮まで、街道の崩壊があるのは草加である。水戸街道は土浦辺りまで、街道の崩壊が所々に見える。下総方面では逆井近辺の震動が強く、行徳・船橋辺りも同様である。葛西領・二合半領では崩壊が諸所にある。また松戸・市川・柴又辺りも崩壊が多いと聞く。その他、在郷・市中ともに見積もったところ、高台の地は格別のことは

なく、低い地には多分損害が強い方に見えたという。その他、上総・房州・伊豆の国々にも所々で損害が甚だしいものがあるということである。
この夜、諸国・近郷の旅宿で、江戸においてこの災禍に遭い、亡くなり失われた者が数多くあったという。花街においては特にそのような者たちが多かったであろう。家族の嘆きを思いやると哀れである。

○Regarding this earthquake, its exact extent is not clearly known, but from what we generally hear: On the Tōkaidō, there was much collapse at Kanagawa-juku and Hodogaya-juku, with damage extending to Honmoku, Kanazawa, Kamakura, Enoshima, and Uraga. On the Nakasendō, the limit was Takasaki in Jōshū province. Along this highway, sand gushed up from the ground and spring water overflowed in many places. There were many obstructions between Warabi-juku and Ōmiya.
On the Kōshū Kaidō, up to Hachiōji, there was nothing particularly serious on the highway. On the Nikkō Kaidō, up to Utsunomiya, the highway collapse was at Sōka. On the Mito Kaidō, up to around Tsuchiura, highway collapses can be seen in various places. In the Shimōsa area, the shaking was strong around Sakasai, and the same was true around Gyōtoku and Funabashi. In Kasai domain and Nigōhan domain, there were collapses in many places. Also, around Matsudo, Ichikawa, and Shibamata, there were many collapses, it is said. Elsewhere, both in rural areas and urban districts, from our estimates, highland areas had nothing particularly

serious, but low-lying areas seemed to have suffered much stronger damage. Additionally, in the provinces of Kazusa, Bōshū, and Izu, there were places with extremely severe damage.
On this night, many people from various provinces staying at inns in nearby rural areas died and were lost in this disaster in Edo. In the pleasure quarters, there were probably particularly many such people. When one thinks of their families' grief, it is truly pitiful.
