○元禄癸未（1703年）以降、江戸の貴賤を問わず長い間激しい地震に遭遇していないため、常に火災の災いを恐れて地震を怖がる心が薄い。《注：元禄の地震については白石翁の『折たく柴の記』、正宝事録、和漢合運、武江年表に概要が記されているが、詳しくない。その他たまたま記録に見えるものは茶飲み話の種にするだけで、恐れ思う人はいない》
