家に帰りきて見れは其騒大方ならす常に居なれつる帳場とい
ふに直り居てとやかくとおこなひゐるを人々の見て忍ひに笑
ふはら立ツゝいたくしかりてふと我身をかへり見れはさしもむく
つけき身に緋縮緬といふものゝ振袖のいとうるはしき小袖をまと
ひたれはさらにをもなくて納戸のかたへ逃入り酔ふたりとて打

仕方がないので膝の下をのこぎりで切断したところ、這い出して、あたりに落ちていた木の端を杖にして、とても元気よく逃げ去ったということである。
○伝馬町にある紙問屋の主人で何某という者が、狂言という岡本屋という遊郭に行き、「遊び新造」という十五歳ほどの遊女を揚げて寝所に入った。寒いということで軽い着物などを着てくつろいで共に寝ていたところ、すぐに地震が揺れ出して二階ごと落ち崩れた。その女が抱きついて離れなかったので、そのまま連れて辛うじて大門を出て堤まで逃げて行き、様々に言い訳をして別れ、素足で主人の家に帰ってきて見ると、その騒ぎは大変なものであった。いつも座り慣れている帳場というところに座って、あれこれと仕事をしているのを人々が見て、ひそかに笑うので腹を立ててひどく叱り、ふと我が身を振り返って見ると、あまりにも男らしくない身なりで、緋縮緬という物の振袖のとても美しい小袖を着ていたので、全く面目なくて納戸の方へ逃げ込み、酔ったということにして寝込んでしまったということである。

After making various excuses, they parted, and he returned barefoot to his master's house. When he looked around, the commotion was extraordinary. He sat in his usual place called the accounting desk and went about his business, but when people saw this and secretly laughed, he became angry and scolded them harshly. When he suddenly looked at himself, he realized he was dressed most inappropriately for a man, wearing a beautiful kosode with scarlet crepe sleeves. Feeling utterly ashamed, he fled to the storage room and pretended to be drunk, lying down.
