昨年10月2日の大地震では命を失ったり生業を失った者が数えきれないほどおり、世間では恐ろしいことと思っていたが、今年安政3年（1856年）8月25日には稀に見る大風雨があって家を倒し、高潮が海辺に押し寄せて家を水に浸し、人命を損なった。その顛末の大略を以下に記す。
○8月23日微雨、24日・25日と続けて小雨が降り、日暮れから次第に激しく降りしきり、南からの大風が戌の刻の七八つ時（午後8時～10時頃）より特に激しくなり、暁の丑の刻（午前2時～4時頃）を過ぎて次第に静まった。この始めの頃に雷鳴があり、雷は程なく収まったが、この風雨の間に地震もあったということである。大風で家屋が動揺するのに紛れて気づかなかった者もいた。翌26日朝からは晴れとなった。

Last year's great earthquake on the 2nd day of the 10th month caused countless people to lose their lives or livelihoods, and the world thought it a terrifying event. However, this year on the 25th day of the 8th month of Ansei 3 (1856), there was an unprecedented great wind and rain storm that toppled houses, and storm surges flooded the seashore, submerging houses and causing loss of life. A general account of these events is recorded below.
○On the 23rd day of the 8th month there was light rain; on the 24th and 25th days light rain continued, becoming increasingly heavy from evening onward. The great southern wind became particularly severe from around the 7th-8th points of the hour of the dog (around 8-10 PM), and gradually subsided after the hour of the ox at dawn (2-4 AM). At the beginning there was thunder, which soon ceased, but during this wind and rain there were also earthquakes. Some people did not notice them because they were confused with the swaying of houses caused by the strong wind. From the morning of the following 26th day, it cleared up.
