本所番場町家主新八自身番屋にありて此動揺に居る事な

であるということで、家臣たちと共にそこに入っていらっしゃったが、家臣たちは皆雨戸を押さえて風を凌いでいたものの、力が及ばず戸を吹き飛ばされて立ち尽くし、外へ出ようとすれば逆波が押し寄せてどうすることもできず、程なく海水が店の上まで上がってきたので、ここに続いている長屋の二階にいらっしゃったが、ますます動揺が激しくなり、既に転覆しそうになった頃、不思議にも君沢形の御船が吹き寄せられたので、二階からただちにこの御船に移られた後、かの船は芝浦へ吹き寄せられた。それより辛うじて陸に上がり逃れられたということである。

Before long, seawater rose above the shops, so they went to the second floor of the long house connected to this place. However, the swaying became even more violent and just when it seemed about to overturn, miraculously a Kimisawa-style imperial boat was blown toward them. They immediately moved from the second floor to this boat, and afterwards the vessel was blown to Shibaura. From there they managed with difficulty to climb onto land and escape.
A single oshiokuri-bune from the Izu area carrying sixteen people capsized at the cape of Honmoku. Among them, an eighteen-year-old man drifted in the waves and was washed up onto the Third Daiba, went over the stone embankment and fell inside, but his body was unharmed. The restaurant teahouses at Fukagawa Susaki located on the coast suffered particularly severe hardship. Their tatami rooms were taken by reverse waves and swept away into the sea, but the family had hidden in a storehouse. When water reached up to their shoulders, they resigned themselves thinking this was the end of their lives and chanted the name of Amida Buddha, but this storehouse only tilted and was not swept away, and they finally saved their lives. The place called "Musashiya" apparently did not suffer as much damage because its building was new.
The house owner Shinhachi of Honjo Bamba-chō was in the neighborhood watch house when he could no longer remain during this upheaval and rushed outside, but unable to walk, he clung to the gate post and barely managed to weather this disaster
